Cathy Barker

Teacher of classes for English for English Speakers in Riehen and Therwil and

English for Speakers of Other Languages in Therwil.

Cathy is from the north of England. She studied History and Archaeology at the University of Exeter and followed that up with a handful of years in the television industry, before qualifying as a teacher (PGCE) with the University of East Anglia in 1992.

She subsequently taught in state primary schools in England before leaving the UK with her husband and children (amusingly finding herself described as a “trailing spouse”) to spend several years in Peru and Kenya (where she gained knowledge of international schools and scientific proof-reading and editing).

For the last six years she has been pleased and privileged to call Basel her home, and has continued to both teach and build up her writing and editing experience.

Spare time activities include being a proud member of a small but perfectly formed choral society, stage acting, reading (anything from classics to cereal packets) and exercising the “little grey cells” with an ever-handy cryptic crossword.
