Dear Ahead With English Parents in Therwil and Riehen,

We are halfway through week two of teaching  your children from afar.  All  of the teachers at Ahead With English are  on a steep learning curve  (and we are sure you are too) adapting our lessons to be taught through the mail, through email and most recently, online using Zoom.  We are enjoying the challenge but please bear in mind that this is new to us and we also have children and spouses at home, patchy internet sometimes, and the challenge of sharing computers and quiet office space.

Zoom online lessons

We are designing our online classes to supplement the lesson packs your children have received and will continue to receive. We can assure you that all of your children will receive their English lessons and more and more supplemental classes will become available online for the classes where it is appropriate.

If you have not received work for your child, please let us know at this address: awehomeschool@gmail.com and we will make sure you receive it.

We would like to ask that your children store all the work we send neatly in their English folders.

Make up classes in June

Once we can resume teaching at our premises, we will make options available for all of our students to make up missed classes in the month of June. We will let you know more details in due course.

Outstanding Invoices

We are grateful to those of you who are paying your outstanding invoices. Thank you!

And would like to request once again that all outstanding invoices be paid by the due date so that teachers can continue to be paid, so that school materials and supplies can continue to be purchased and so that rent, utilities and all other fixed costs can continue to be paid. We cannot give refunds.

We can be flexible in accepting payment in installments as long as you let us know and we receive the full amount due by June 30, 2020.

Please consult our website for regular updates: www.aheadwithenglish.com.  And, if you are on Facebook, please check our page from time to time for helpful websites and creative ideas.

Thank you very much again for your continued support and understanding during this challenging and ever-changing time.  It will enable our school to continue in the future.

Although we are beginning to discover some of the benefits of teaching from afar, we all miss seeing the smiling faces of your children in our classes.

With kind regards,

The Ahead With English Team

Dear Ahead With English Parents in Therwil and Riehen,

As you know, given the most recent Swiss federal guidelines regarding coronavirus safety measures, our group classes will not be taught at our premises in Riehen or Therwil.

We hope to resume teaching all of our classes on-site on April 20th but will follow government guidelines and keep you informed.

We do hope that you are settling into a new routine managing your work obligations with your children at home, your children's school obligations and all the new demands this situation is creating.

awehomeschool@gmail.com

Our teachers are very busy creatively adapting their lessons to distance learning.  We are putting together packs of materials that we will send home to you each week for you to do with your children so they continue learning and developing new skills.  The packs will include full instructions for how the work should be completed.

We will have sent out work for all of our classes, including pre-school, by Friday.  Some work is being sent by post and some by email. If you have not received work for your child, please let us know at this address: awehomeschool@gmail.com and we will make sure you receive it.

We would like to ask that your children store all the work we send neatly in their English folders so that we can review it with them when we all return to the classroom.

Once we can resume teaching on our premises, we will make options available for our pre-school children to make up missed pre-school sessions, which may include pre-school opening on extra mornings, afternoons and weekends.  We will let you know more details in due course.

Cambridge Young Learner Exams (YLEs)

Unfortunately, we are unable to teach the Cambridge compulsory preparation class that was planned for Saturday 21st March at 2:00.

We have also decided to postpone the  YLE s that were to be held on Saturday 16th May 2020 and are currently in discussions with Cambridge Examinations Basel to schedule an alternative date. We will let you know as soon as possible.

There is no need for you to take any action. We will keep your registration details and update you throughout the coming months regarding alternative dates for the compulsory preparation classes, exam dates and other necessary information.

Outstanding Invoices

Please pay outstanding invoices by the due date so that teachers can continue to be paid, so that school materials and supplies can continue to be purchased and so that rent, utilities and all other fixed costs can continue to be paid. We cannot give refunds.

If you encounter financial difficulties as a result of the coronavirus safety measures that the Swiss government implements, please let the school know so we can discuss a payment plan.  Also, please consult directly with The Bundesamt für Gesundheit (BAG) Kommunication: media@bag.admin.ch or call their hotline, 0041 58 463 0000 for guidance on how to receive assistance.

We attach two letters from the Erziehungsdepartement for your reference.  As stated in the letter, we would like to ask you to:

1. talk to your children about proper hand-washing and hygiene to help prevent spreading the virus,

2. keep your children at home if they show signs of illness or fever; they should be fever-free for a full 24 hours before returning to school, and

3. keep your children at home for a minimum of 14 days if they have spent one night or more in any one the highly affected areas of the world.

We are also attaching posters that demonstrate proper hand-washing that were sent to us by the Erziehungsdepartement of the Kanton of Basel-Stadt.  We will hang these up at both school locations and talk to the children about them as well.

We will keep you updated as we receive more information from the Kanton.  Please refer to the following websites for more information:
